How to read an icon
A status icon appears while a skill affects a character. The game sorts them into four groups:
- Attribute Upgrades make the character stronger in one way, such as more damage or a lower Arts cost.
- Attribute Downgrades weaken them, such as more damage taken or a higher Arts cost.
- Abnormal Conditions are ailments such as Faint, Poison and Bleed. They end on their own after a set number of counts.
- Buffs give the character a special state, such as immunity to Attribute Downgrades or healing over time.
Many stats have an upgrade icon and a downgrade icon. Each table row shows the pair together, with the upgrade first. For how to read the ability text that applies these effects, see Reading ability text.

Resistances
Resistance to an Abnormal Condition makes it less likely to land. Most resistance effects have two icons with the same name. Both appear below.

Attacks can also be Impact, Slice, Pierce or Explode, and a character can resist each of those:

| Pierce Resistance UP / DOWN | |
| Explode Resistance UP / DOWN |
Abnormal conditions
| Icon | Condition |
|---|---|
| Faint | |
| Poison | |
| Bleed | |
| Paralyze | |
| Immobilize | |
| Flash |
A character affected by Faint can’t act. Poison and Bleed both deal damage over time. Each condition ends on its own after a set number of counts, and the resistances above make them less likely to land. Battle Mechanics covers the effects that block or remove them.
