Learn before you play
The game has its own PvP course, Learn With Trunks! Path to Victory Battle Lecture. It’s a set of tutorial battles covering:
- party formation and battle basics
- Rising Rush, including advanced Rising Rush techniques
- Tap Shots, Tackles and Quick Attacks
- combos, from an introduction to advanced techniques
- using character switching well
- Dynamic Area Battles and LEGEND Actions
- character abilities
Look for it on the main screen once you clear Main Story Part 1, Book 2, Chapter 6 on Normal. After that you’ll find it under Event > Special. Completing its Missions gives 300 Chrono Crystals, plus the Title “Trunks’ Disciple” and Trunks (Teen) Arts Card Sleeves.
The official Beginner’s Guide site also has Video Tips, a series of PvP technique videos.
Rating Matches
Rating Matches are ranked matches against players worldwide. Win to earn Rating Points (RP) during each season. When the season ends, you receive rewards and your RP resets.
You’re ranked in two places at once: the League Ranking against every player, and the Group Ranking against the players in your group. A match that ends after the season closes still counts. Ranking screens show placements from the last update, so they can be a little behind.
Season Rank
Your RP determines your Season Rank. Matchmaking uses that rank to find opponents. From Silver ★1 up, losing a match costs you RP. The top rank is Godly.
Godly goes to players at Diamond ★7 or higher who are in the top 1,000 of the Legends League Ranking, once a set time has passed in the season. You lose it if you no longer meet both requirements, and the game keeps count of how many seasons you’ve finished at Godly.
If you finish a season above a certain rank, a Special Rank Up gives you RP at the start of the next one, based on where you finished.
Your Season Rank at the end of the last season also decides your Group block: D, C, B, A, S or Z. Each block has many groups, and you’re placed in one of them.
1st Win RP Bonus
Your first win of each day gives a fixed RP bonus. It comes back when the day resets. Bonuses such as “RP x2” don’t multiply it, and it may be limited at Diamond ★7 and above.
PROUD Rules
PROUD Rules use all 6 characters in your party. Round 1 uses 3 of them and round 2 the other 3, and both rounds are shorter than a normal match. If it’s a draw after two rounds, the BATTLE OF PRIDE decides it, with a team of 3 that has at least one character from each earlier round.
If the season ends before a PROUD match is decided, the result doesn’t count.
Auto Match Rules
Only players in the Challenger League can pick Auto Match Rules. You’re matched with other players who chose them, the battle runs on Auto Mode, and you can take over by hand at any time. You win or lose less RP than in a normal Rating Match, and the LEGENDS Pass’s stronger Auto Mode doesn’t apply.
Rating Match rewards
| Reward | When you get it |
|---|---|
| Match Rewards | At the end of each match, based on the result and your Season Rank. |
| Season Rank Achievement Rewards | The first time you reach each Season Rank. |
| Season Rank Rewards | During the next season, for the rank you finished on. |
| Ranking Rewards | During the next season, for your place in the League and Group Rankings. |
You need to play a minimum number of Rating Matches to appear in the rankings and to claim rewards. You can get Ranking Rewards from both the League and the Group Ranking, but only the best one from each. Season and Ranking Rewards arrive when you open the PvP screen after the results are tallied.
Boost Characters
Each season some characters are Boost Characters and get stronger in Rating Matches, Treasure Battles and, in some seasons, Tri-Arena. How much depends on their tier, and a Zenkai Awakened character can get a different boost from one that isn’t.
Only characters you send into battle receive the boost. The current list is on the main PvP screen, and on the Boost Characters menu in Tri-Arena.
Treasure Battle
Treasure Battles match you against players of similar power who are also playing Treasure Battle. They don’t give or take RP and don’t affect your Season Rank, though bonuses that grant RP still can.
Each match gives Match Rewards, and you earn Reward Points whether you win or lose. How many depends on the current Goals. Enough points open the Treasure Chest. If the chest can contain RP, that may be limited at Diamond ★7 and above.
Tri-Arena
You build three parties, each for a different Formation Requirement, and try to win once with each one, three wins in all. Tri-Arena runs in seasons while it’s open.
- A party that wins is locked until you reach three wins. A party that loses can keep trying.
- A character can only be in one of the three parties, even if it fits more than one requirement.
- How many characters each party holds can change by season. The “i” button on the Tri-Arena screen has the Basic Rules.
- After three wins, every party is unlocked again and your record goes back to 0.
- Reset Challenge unlocks your parties so you can change them, but it also resets your record.
Every three wins (one with each party) gives a 3-Win Bonus, as long as you have redemption credits left for the day. How many credits you get depends on the season, and unused credits are lost at the end of it. If your three wins come with no loss or draw in between, you also get the 3-Win Streak Bonus. If you miss the streak bonus, try again after completing three wins or using Reset Challenge.
Training Battle
Friendly matches against players of similar Battle Power. They give Training Battle Rewards but no RP, and don’t affect your Season Rank.
Friend Battle
Invite a friend or guild member and pick the stage. Friend Battles give no rewards.
Replays, history and messages
Battle History has your PvP History and LBR History. From a match’s details you can watch the replay, read the Battle Summary, send a friend request or a Message, or report the player. A camera icon means that battle was uploaded to GodTube.
The Battle Summary is a record of what you and your opponent did in the battle. It works for every Rating Match ruleset, Training Battle, Treasure Battle and LEGENDS BATTLE ROYAL. You may lose it when you change devices or clear the cache.
GodTube shows battles between top players:
- New Replays lists the latest battles for 14 days.
- Replay Collection keeps up to 30 favourites, but each still stops playing 14 days after it was uploaded.
- Watch History keeps the ones you’ve watched, dropping the oldest when it’s full.
Replays from before an app update may stop working.
After a match you can send your opponent a Message, picked from lines spoken by Dragon Ball characters, and Praise Points for how they played. Messages also work after Hyperdimensional Co-Op and Co-Op Raid.
Rankings
Legends Ranking
The Legends Ranking runs in seasons. You earn points by doing things across the game, and the points go into two rankings: the Top World Ranking of every player, and your Group Ranking. Each ranking needs a certain number of points to join. Top World Ranking players get a class from their placement, each with grades ★1 to ★7.
Point Missions give points and items. The points count when you claim the reward, and unclaimed rewards are gone when the season ends. Season rewards for both rankings are handed out after the season and claimed during the next one. The “Season Rewards” screen has the details.
Event Ranking
An Event Ranking compares scores in one chosen Event, over a season. You join once your score reaches that ranking’s requirement, and you get a class from your placement. Classes and scores reset each season.
At the end you get either class rewards or placement rewards, not both. Claim them from the home screen or the Event Ranking screen before the ranking stops being shown. Points earned after the season ends don’t count, even if you started the Event before it closed.
