Giant Bosses Guide

Most failed Giant Boss runs come from one missed mechanic. Find the boss below, bring its counter, and save your protection for the attack that matters.

Check the difficulty first

These strategies cover the AWK (Awoken) Giant Boss quests in the source. They do not cover Ultra versions, Mines variants, or Crest Palace variants. Use the Giant Boss list to find the current quest and schedule, then confirm the difficulty before bringing a team.

The source is old enough that its specific damage-dealer rankings are no longer a useful shopping list. The mechanics are the focus here: required damage types, ailments, Break windows, and survival. Check the battle log and current clear examples if the quest behaves differently.

Three terms used below:

  • Nuke: defeat the boss with a coordinated short damage burst.
  • Break-nuke: empty its Break gauge first, then use that damage burst.
  • Sustain: survive through repeated Arts cycles rather than finishing immediately.

Earlier waves can give you time to build Arts and prepare buffs. Don’t arrive at the boss with empty gauges and every defensive equip on cooldown.

Quick counter checklist

If you are fighting… Check this before entering
Oldeus or Ragsherum Phantom Bring a reliable breaker. Damage outside Break will not solve the fight.
Fosradius Bring non-critical magic damage. Physical damage and critical hits fail here.
Goldola Bring Burn and critical damage; avoid Water attacks.
Aerugraxes Bring Burn to stop its self-freeze regeneration, plus Freeze management for the team.
Ifrit Bring a reliable Freeze plan and cleanse the opening Burn.
Tonetauras Bring Paralysis management and protection for its large attacks.
Code XTF: Eraser Save a survival plan for the zero-HP final attack.
Wilkes Prepare the opening defense, Blind, and protection that still works after barriers are ignored.

For Arts generation, equipment cooldowns, and barrier behavior, see the Technical Guide. A role that solves the mechanic matters more than copying an old four-unit lineup.

Early awakening targets

Degilmagna — The Crimson King

The Crimson King dungeon banner

Finish quickly, or bring strong Burn management. The source describes relatively low HP but dangerous Burn that can rapidly leave the team at 1 HP. A strong opening burst avoids much of that pressure.

For a longer clear, keep cleansing and recovery available. Freeze can interrupt its actions; Selia is one source example, not a required unit. Prepare mitigation for its breath and eruption attacks rather than assuming Burn is the only threat.

Water damage has a favorable matchup, but a working Arts engine and the correct survival tools are more useful than forcing an incomplete mono-Water team.

Oldeus — Shrine of Remembrance

Shrine of Remembrance dungeon banner
Shrine of Remembrance — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

Damage only matters during Break. Bring a dedicated breaker or enough coordinated Break equipment, then hold the main damage burst until the gauge empties.

If you take too long, its Arts mechanic can kill a key unit. For a sustained attempt, bring ailment management and protection to buy the breaker time.

Est paired with a breaker is a historical Break-nuke example. The important sequence is prepare Arts → apply Break support → Break → damage, not a particular old damage dealer.

Radachne — Sanctuary of the Divine Princess

Sanctuary of the Divine Princess dungeon banner
Sanctuary of the Divine Princess — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

The source only gives a brief reference for this AWK encounter. It suggests damage and Arts support, with Ragsherum or Vox as historical examples, but does not provide a detailed mechanic breakdown.

Use a functioning damage/Arts team, read the battle log, and consult current clears for this exact AWK stage. Do not import the barrier phases from Heavenly Light Crest or the Ignore DEF requirement from Mines Radachne: those are different encounters.

Fosradius — Glowing Sanctuary

Glowing Sanctuary dungeon banner
Glowing Sanctuary — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

Use magic damage and avoid critical buffs. This boss negates physical attacks and reduces critical hits to 1 damage, even when those hits are magic. A unit that automatically grants critical rate can undermine the team.

Its strong Arts can be interrupted with Freeze. For a sustained clear, use a reliable Freeze source with Arts support and non-critical magic damage. For a burst clear, stack compatible magic buffs and resistance debuffs without adding critical rate.

This is different from simply having high critical resistance. More critical rate is not the fix.

Elpneumas — The Green Strikes Back

The Green Strikes Back dungeon banner
The Green Strikes Back — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

Bring Burn to stop regeneration and manage Disease. Paralysis can interrupt the Disease-inflicting attack; a cleanser is another way to keep healing available.

For a sustained clear, maintain Arts generation, refresh Burn when regeneration becomes a problem, and keep the team healthy through its ordinary attacks. A quick damage burst can shorten the fight, but do not let a failed burst leave you without a way to stop the recovery.

Bosses with dangerous openings or control effects

Code XTF: Eraser — Fortress of the Machine God

Fortress of the Machine God dungeon banner
Fortress of the Machine God — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

The final attack is the main survival check. At zero HP, Eraser launches a very large attack. Save a defensive combination or a tested survival effect before dealing the last damage.

During the fight, its adaptive shield blocks the element that dealt the most damage before the shield appeared. Either finish before that adaptation or bring more than one damage element for a longer clear. The source also lists magic resistance, making physical damage a useful starting point.

A tank or survival-passive unit can help one member endure the ending, but that does not necessarily satisfy a no-deaths mission. Build for the objective you are trying to complete.

Freydal — Cry of the Azure Roc

Cry of the Azure Roc dungeon banner
Cry of the Azure Roc — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

Prepare for Freeze, critical hits, and evasion if the fight lasts. The source favors a quick burst or Break-nuke. Earth damage is useful, but it still needs the Arts and equipment to act on time.

For a sustained clear, bring Freeze management and protection while keeping damage consistent. If attacks begin missing, address accuracy/evasion rather than simply adding damage buffs.

This AWK version does not use the full Storm Mode plan from Diamond Dust Crest. Match the encounter before reusing a strategy.

Flogassa — Crimson Flames of the Phoenix

Crimson Flames of the Phoenix dungeon banner
Crimson Flames of the Phoenix — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

Keep Burn off the team. Flogassa’s critical attacks become more dangerous against burning units, and it can evade attacks.

Its “critical negation” is not the same as AWK Fosradius’s 1-damage rule: the source says critical hits lose their critical damage bonus and behave as ordinary damage. Don’t build the entire damage plan around critical scaling.

For a sustained clear, keep Burn cleansing or resistance active and use defensive equips through Arts. A Water damage dealer can help, but support and ailment coverage still come first.

Valzendeth — Caverns of Dark

Caverns of Dark dungeon banner
Caverns of Dark — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

Bring Burn and Blind management, and stop wasting damage during invulnerability. This boss resists status ailments, so don’t rely on Freeze-locking it. Other debuffs, such as damage or DEF reduction, can still be useful.

During Shadow Lightning Stance, it becomes invulnerable and charges its Arts. Save the burst until that state ends. The following Shadow Lightning hits the whole stage and inflicts Burn and Blind.

Prepare resistance and a suitable cleanse before the beam. A tank can help contain the damage, but the rest of the setup must keep that tank functioning.

Ifrit — Trials of the Flame God

Trials of the Flame God dungeon banner
Trials of the Flame God — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

Freeze is the main control tool. Ifrit’s opening burns the team and halves its HP, so bring cleansing and recovery immediately—not only for the final phase.

The source describes his attacks and Arts as interruptible by Freeze, including a lethal low-HP attack. A reliable Freeze source with enough Arts support can prevent those actions. Keep a defensive fallback in case the timing or ailment application fails.

Unlike Mines Ifrit, this entry is not a Hellfire/lifesteal walkthrough. Don’t swap one mode’s counter for the other’s.

Palamicia — Battle against the Silent Holy Knight

Battle against the Silent Holy Knight dungeon banner
Battle against the Silent Holy Knight — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

The older source calls this dungeon A Silent Swordfight. Watch the counter stance and use Paralysis to control the fight. Starting with a Paralysis action can prevent her opening counter from disrupting the team.

A quick burst or Break-nuke works in the source; for a sustained clear, keep control and recovery active through her strong Arts. Earth damage has a favorable matchup.

Do not confuse this with Palamicia Omega in Mines, where Paralysis is a strict damage requirement, or Azul Knight Crest, which has different race and counter rules.

Aerugraxes — A Subzero Hellscape

A Subzero Hellscape dungeon banner
A Subzero Hellscape — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

Bring Burn for the boss and Freeze protection for the team. Aerugraxes freezes itself to regenerate HP rapidly. Burn cancels that self-freeze and its recovery.

It also has substantial physical resistance in the source, so magic damage is convenient, though a strong physical team is not automatically excluded. Build enough sustain to survive its damage while maintaining your Burn source.

The failure to watch for is a team that survives but cannot make progress because the boss keeps healing. Fix the Burn timing before adding another damage dealer.

Bosses that punish an incomplete team

Tonetauras — Clashing Thunder of the Emerald Bird

Clashing Thunder of the Emerald Bird dungeon banner
Clashing Thunder of the Emerald Bird — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

Prevent or cleanse Paralysis and prepare mitigation before Arts. Its attacks can Paralyze, and paralyzed units take dangerous critical damage. A disabled cleanser cannot rescue the team after the hit.

Blind can reduce the threat of its large attacks, but have defensive equipment ready if Blind fails. Below roughly 25% HP, Storm Status adds evasion and regeneration; Break removes that state in the source.

For a long fight, plan all three parts: ailment management, survival through the big Arts, and enough Break or damage to finish the last phase.

Mavroskia — Shadow of the God Eater

Shadow of the God Eater dungeon banner
Shadow of the God Eater — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

The source calls this encounter The Black Shadow of Eclipse. Light damage exploits its weakness, but you still need an answer to Black Hole.

That move pulls in a unit, drains Arts, and reduces maximum HP. Freeze or Faint can interrupt it. Hold the interrupt for the mechanic rather than spending it automatically on cooldown.

Prepare for Disease and the strong Evil End Roa attack as well. The source lists God killer, so consider race when choosing support and protection. A sustained team can work if it consistently stops Black Hole and survives the large hits.

Ragsherum Phantom — Awakening Cursed Armor

Awakening Cursed Armor dungeon banner
Awakening Cursed Armor — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

The older source calls this Despair of the Cursed Armor. Bring a dedicated breaker: it only takes useful damage during Break and has high Break resistance.

For a Break burst, apply Break-resistance down before spending Break equips. Then use your damage while the boss is vulnerable. A sustained setup needs enough protection to survive grabs and maximum-HP reduction while setting up the next Break.

True Nightmare targets and disables a unit while the boss charges behind a special bar. Clear that bar or use a tested tank survival plan; waiting for ordinary healing is not enough. The source says this attack becomes more frequent after the first Break and especially below 25% HP.

Goldola — Life Draining Botanical Beast

Life Draining Botanical Beast dungeon banner
Life Draining Botanical Beast — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

Bring reliable Burn and critical damage. Avoid Water attacks, which heal the boss. Goldola alternates damage-negation states around HP intervals; the source’s required damage setup is critical hits while it is burning.

Prepare Poison cleansing/resistance and mitigation for its stronger attacks. Do not use a Water attacker simply because it normally performs well elsewhere.

At 20% HP, Goldola removes one Burn application, gains Burn resistance, and starts regenerating. Save a fresh Burn application for that transition. Reapplying Burn stops the regeneration and lets you finish; spending every ailment source just before 20% can stall the run.

O’zagun — Frozen Calamity in the North

Frozen Calamity in the North dungeon banner
Frozen Calamity in the North — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

Bring enough sustain for the throw and hammer attacks, plus Poison management. The source describes a high-HP boss with a potentially lethal throw and a threshold hammer attack that can Faint.

Paralysis can help control it. For a sustained clear, keep the healer protected and use defensive equips before a dangerous action; losing the only healer to the throw can collapse an otherwise stable team.

A coordinated burst is another source strategy, but a merely high damage team still needs to survive long enough to act.

Wilkes — Sanctuary of the Bright Spirit

Sanctuary of the Bright Spirit dungeon banner
Sanctuary of the Bright Spirit — open the dungeon for quests and drops.

Prepare defense for the opening, bring Blind, and avoid Light damage. Wilkes starts invulnerable, reduces the team’s maximum HP heavily, and uses True Arts. Do not spend your damage burst into that protected opening.

Blind is the source’s main way to reduce the threat of her multi-hit attacks. Combine it with appropriate magic/Light/general resistance; a failed Blind should not leave the team with no defense.

Boss HP What changes
75% Attacks begin ignoring barriers. Keep real damage resistance available.
50% Damage increases. Avoid entering the phase with defensive equips unavailable.
Around 30% Regular Arts gain critical hits, making the finish especially dangerous.

Watch the three wisps: each regular Arts charges one, and three charged wisps signal another True Arts. Wilkes is invulnerable during that attack. Save defense for its impact and resume damage afterward.

This is a coordinated encounter. If using multiplayer, bring a useful counter or support role and follow the team’s timing rather than expecting one player to cover every mechanic.

Before you repeat the quest

Confirm that the clear survived the complete fight, including any zero-HP attack. Then check whether your equipment and Arts will be ready at the same points on the next run.
