Emperor Yu had to admit—his immortal existence was honestly getting a little tiresome, even if his domain of Heaven was a pleasant place filled with benevolent souls. That was how a competition among twelve creature families was drawn up to select the most capable to serve as his assistant, but for a few of the candidates, the human realm seemed much more fascinating than the prospect of divine duty. Goat was a scrappy little thing, but what he lacked in stature, he more than made up with sincere effort. Always sparing a thought for less sure-footed friends, Goat was adept at leading others through the precarious mountain paths he navigated with ease. Only Tiger could possibly compete, but even so, Goat was uncontested in merely walking up the sheerest of cliffs. When Goat stepped into the human realm and looked upon the alpine mountains, a wave of nostalgia rocked him to his very soul. Had he not walked these same paths in the world before he had ascended? His appearance subconsciously drew from the folklore of the region, and soon, whispers spread among the villages that an "elfin fairy" had come to live among them. The gentle swing of his lantern-slung cane became a beacon of hope for those who had gotten lost in the mist-filled valleys. His raggedly hat, topped with the curved horns of the mountain's four-legged natives, led many to call this benevolent little creature Alphie. Pleased with his new name, Alphie shouldered his knapsack full of odds and ends and toddled off. They'd never know where he got them from...
